Whether your smile needs minor adjustment or more dramatic improvement, invisalign® – a revolutionary development in orthodontic care – can gradually and subtly improve your smile. Hundreds of thousands of smiles have been transformed using invisalign®, the teeth aligners that are clear and removable. Dr. J. Brent Gorrell will work with you to define your treatment goals. Every four to six weeks patients meet with Dr. Gorrell to check their progress. The typical treatment time using invisalign® teeth aligners is one year – start to finish.
Before invisalign® the only treatment option for misaligned or crooked teeth was a mouth full of metal braces. invisalign® requires no pulling, twisting, or tightening; no shots, drills, or metal.

invisalign® orthodontics are removable, allowing patients to enjoy the foods they love – apples, corn, nuts, anything. Unlike metal braces, food can’t get stuck. Brushing and flossing is easy – simply take out your aligner.
Each invisalign® aligner is customized for your specific treatment plan. You will receive a series of aligners to wear throughout the treatment period; each one is specifically constructed to fit your mouth at that stage. Periodic visits to our Mountain View office – serving Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and the Greater San Jose area – allow Dr. Gorrell to check on your progress. If you would like to know more about invisalign® orthodontics, contact us today and arrange a consultation.
Root canal therapy is one of the most common dental procedures performed today – more than 14 million patients undergo endodontic treatment each year. The treatment can save infected natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges. At the center of each of our teeth is a long, thin strand of pulp which extends, by way of the root canal, to the tooth’s root. This pulp is a collection of blood vessels, nutrients, and nerves. If the pulp becomes infected or is severely damaged, the tooth’s nerves will die as well. Infection can be caused by trauma, deep decay, chips and cracks, or repeated dental procedures. The symptoms of an infection include visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature, or pain in the tooth and gums.
If the infection reaches the nerves, endodontic treatment is required to remove the infected pulp before the tooth itself requires removal. Dr. J. Brent Gorrell will create an opening in the tooth’s pulp chamber and remove the diseased pulp. The opening will then be sealed with a dental crown. The procedure is conducted under anesthesia and has a 90 percent success rate. Endodontic treatment is usually a simple procedure with little or no discomfort. If you exhibit tooth infection symptoms, contact our Mountain View office – serving Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and the northwest Santa Clara County – while the tooth is still salvageable.
An apicoectomy, also called a root-end resection, refers to the removal of the root tip and any surrounding infected tissue of an abscessed tooth. An apicoectomy may be necessary when inflammation and infection persist in the area around the root tip after root canal therapy. Once the infected tissue is removed, a root-end filling is placed to prevent re-infection.
When we eat or drink anything containing sugar or starch, the bacteria in our mouths process them into corrosive acids that attack our teeth’s enamel. Overtime, this results in tooth decay. However, sealants are a simple, effective countermeasure. A tooth-colored acrylic coating is painted onto the chewing surfaces of teeth, effectively sealing the deep grooves where decay often begins. The molars and premolars are the most likely teeth to develop this sort of decay because they have microscopic grooves that toothbrushes and floss cannot reach. Sealants create a barrier over your teeth’s enamel and have been used successfully for more than two decades on both children and adults. If you are interested in protective sealants, contact our Mountain View office – serving Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and the Greater San Jose area – and arrange an appointment with Dr. Gorrell.
Teeth which are fractured or heavily decayed can be restored using dental crowns. Crowns reinforce teeth that are cracked or in danger of cracking. They can also mask imperfections in tooth shape and color. Dental crowns are made from several different materials, but most commonly gold or porcelain. Gold crowns, typically used on the back teeth – require less tooth reduction before placement. Porcelain crowns mimic the appearance and color of natural teeth, creating a natural, healthy, finished result. Dr. Gorrell and our dental team will carefully evaluate which type of dental crown is right for you. Crowns, inlays, and onlays are excellent treatment options for patients with damaged teeth. Crowns also can serve as the anchors for dental bridges for patients missing teeth.
