Meet the Team at Gorrell Smiles

J. Brent Gorrell, DDS

Born in California, Dr. Gorrell was raised in the metropolitan Chicago area – moving to the Midwest when he was in junior high school. He attended the University of Iowa on a swimming scholarship for his undergraduate studies. In 1979, he received his Doctor in Dental Surgery from Northwestern University’s Dental School, at which point he decided he’d had enough of Chicago winters.

Later that year, cosmetic dentist J. Brent Gorrell D.D.S. established his Mountain View, California practice serving Palo Alto and Sunnyvale. Since then he has remained committed to staying at the cutting-edge of the ever-changing field of dentistry. He fancies himself as a "continuing education junkie," as he’s addicted to continuing education (CE) courses. Dr. Gorrell has remained dedicated to being one of Northern California’s finest cosmetic dentists.

Dr. Gorrell has also been active in several esteemed organizations including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (member since 1996), the L.D. Pankey Institute, and the Academy of General Dentistry (in which he has earned his mastership). Dr. Gorrell is also a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and the International Association for Orthodontics. He's also an associate instructor for the Northern California Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry.

In his spare time, Dr. Gorrell enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. His interests include outdoor sports, including mountain biking, scuba diving, swimming, and skiing, as well as reading, and fine dining.

Anthony Marcos, DDS

Associate General Dentist

Dr. Marcos received his DDS degree with honors from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco in 1994, and served as a clinical instructor in restorative dentistry and endodontics. He has completed hundreds of hours of training in advanced aesthetic dentistry, CEREC same-day crowns and oral surgery. Outside the dental office, he and his wife commit much of their free time volunteering for his church with community outreach programs.

Alexander Lew, DDS

Associate General Dentist

Dr. Alexander Lew received his DDS degree from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco in 2019, and completed a General Practice Residency (GPR) at the VA Hospital in Loma Linda California.

Dr. Lew’s clinical skills and proficiency includes but are not limited to Oral Surgery, Endodontics, Restorative Care such as same-day crowns, implant crowns, bridges, veneers, partial and complete dentures.

Outside the dental office, he and his girlfriend enjoy exploring the bay area for new coffee shops, restaurants, and breweries. I am confident you will find Dr. Lew to be a wonderful addition to our team. He takes great pride in the care he provides and strives to ensure a positive, enjoyable dental visit.

Ryan Mui, DDS

Associate General Dentist

Dr. Ryan Mui was born and raised in the Bay Area. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry where he graduated as valedictorian. He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Phi Kappa Phi, and Tau Kappa Omega Honor Societies.

Dr. Mui believes in offering patients conservative, evidence based dentistry, with a focus on biomimetic restorative methods. He is always growing his repertoire with progressive techniques to allow for the best treatments possible for his patients. He values building high quality relationships through education and communication with his patients. His goal is to make sure no one leaves the dental office confused in regards to their treatment or oral health. Dr. Mui firmly believes that the path to successful oral health begins with education and prevention.

In his spare time, he enjoys rock climbing, hiking, cycling, and finding the best coffee shops. He is a huge fan of the Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco 49ers.

Jonathan Low, DDS

Associate Dentist

Dr. Jonathan Low was born and raised in Stockton, California. He received a bachelor’s degree at The College of Idaho. He then went on to pursue his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of the Pacific, Dugoni School of Dentistry.

Dr. Low is a third generation dentist within his family. His grandpa, father, uncles, siblings, and cousins all became dentists with Dr. Low being the eleventh member of thirteen dentists in the family. He found he wanted to become a dentist at the age of six and pursued dentistry his whole life. 

Dr. Low enjoys doing oral surgery, root canals, implant restorations, bridges, and biomimetic restorative dentistry. He enjoys dentistry so much that you can even find him catching up on dental videos or literature while on vacation.

Outside the office, Dr. Low enjoys playing pickleball, bowling, shooting (former trapshooting competitor), attending Kpop concerts, and watching Korean dramas.

Araceli Early

Practice Manager

Araceli joined Gorrell smiles in 2015, and the thing that she loves most about her job is that, to her, it’s not a job at all! She has fun working with the team at Gorrell Smiles and building long-lasting relationships with our patients so they can relax and get the important dental care they need.

A San Jose native, Araceli attended Concorde Institute for her dental assistant training and graduated on the honor roll in 1995. In her free time, she enjoys going long walks with her fur baby,  spending time with friends and family, relaxing at home and adventures.

Jessica, RDAEF

Clinical Manager

Jessica joined the Gorrell Smiles dental team in 2018, and she enjoys helping patients feel confident about their oral health and their smiles. A native of Sunnyvale, Jessica enjoys spending free time with her family.

Lydia

Financial Coordinator

As our financial coordinator, Lydia is well-versed in any matters that relate to dental insurance or financing the cost of dental care. Over the last 25 years, she has taken numerous courses devoted to insurance processing and financial arranging and processing. Lydia is the helpful team member you turn to with all of your insurance and financial questions.

Lydia joined Gorrell Smiles in 2014 and loves everything about working here including the ease of working as part of our team, the patients she assists, and her ability to use her skill to make the office run more smoothly. 

A native of Middletown, RI, Lydia enjoys traveling and cooking and is an avid reader in her spare time.

Celia

Treatment Coordinator

Celia joined the dental field in 2021. She started off as a patient at this office and has worked hard to learn the ins and outs of the practice. She recently earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Palo Alto University, and hopes to become a Forensic Psychologist. In her free time, Celia loves to read, watch documentaries, listen to music and going to the gym.

Joyce

Registered Dental Hygienist

Joyce was born and raised in Taiwan, where she had a career as a Registered Nurse (RN).  Shortly after immigrated to USA in 1985 and she became a registered assistant.  Ever since, she has been in love with the dentistry profession and serving people in that capacity.  She has shifted her practice and later her career from nursing to dental hygiene and graduated from the Dental Hygiene Program in Foothill College in 1994.  With over 30 years of extraordinary experiences in the dental profession, she possesses strong passion and dedication to serve and help her patients every single day.  Her enthusiasm with new knowledge and techniques in the field proves to be an enormous asset that benefits her patients. Her hobbies outside of work are cooking, crafting, singing, and traveling. 

Lillian

Registered Dental Hygienist

Lillian attended Foothill College and Carrington College and has been with Gorrell Smiles since June 2018. She enjoys spending time with all of her patients educating and collaborating with them to help improve their oral hygiene routine. Lillian also appreciates working in a dental practice that welcomes ideas from the entire team and works together to make them happen. She values the team support and creative feedback that helps her improve her work and her patients’ experiences.

Lillian was born in the Philippines and raised in San Jose. She enjoys spending spare time with family and friends, going out to museums, theme parks, and tourist attractions.

Hope

Registered Dental Hygienist

Hope has been working in the field of dentistry since 2002 and has been a part of the Gorrell Smiles dental team since 2015. She attended Carrington College and received an Associate’s degree in dental hygiene in 2011. Hope truly loves her work, and she has a heart for every patient that she treats. She feels especially satisfied when she can help a patient overcome a previous negative memory of dentistry and help them feel comfortable and happy to be receiving care.

A native of Wuhan, China, Hope attended Wuhan Conservatory where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Dance in 1992. Hope was a dance teacher in China, and she still loves to dance and has been a Zumba instructor for five years.

Hope and her husband have two daughters, and in her free time, she enjoys family vacations with them. She also likes body-building and interior design.

Du

Registered Dental Hygienist

Lu was born and raised in the Philippines. She started her dental career over 15 years ago. In the Philippines she went to dental school to be a Dentist, where she graduated with honors. Her passion for dentistry then inspired her to pursue another dental career . She then became Dental Hygienist when she moved to the US.

She utilizes her dental background and deep knowledge in Dentistry to better educate patients and bring awareness to their periodontal health. 

On her free time she loves to spend time with her two adorable daughters, loving husband and parents.

Kenneth

Registered Dental Hygienist

Kenneth was born in Philadelphia, Pa. and growing up he has moved around the East Coast because of Military family relocations. In his Highschool years his whole family have decided to relocate in the Philippines were he has earn his degree in Dentistry, and shortly after, he moved back in the US and pursued his career in Dental Hygiene in San Jose and graduated in 2011. He is an active member both the American Dental Hygiene Association and California Dental Hygiene Association. His goal and priorities is to make sure he  delivers quality and comprehensive care that leads to preventing periodontal disease. He advocates in staying current with continued education and believes that building strong relationships with patient has better overall success in improving and maintaining oral health.

When he is not in scrubs, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 girls. A sports enthusiast, follows all the Bay Area teams and loves to go biking and hiking. 

Maleeha

Registered Dental Hygienist

Maleeha started out as a dental assistant and began her career in dental hygiene 8 years ago. She is passionate about helping patients commit to their oral health goals. She loves getting to know her patients and building long term relationships.

Maleeha was born and raised in the UK but currently resides in Fremont with her husband and 4 year old daughter. She enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling and hiking.

Hebe

Registered Dental Hygienist

Hebe was born and raised in China. She received her degree in Dental Hygiene at Sacramento City College with an honor in 2020.

Hebe believes that the first and last thing you should do every day is brush and floss thoroughly. No excuses. Her passion is to spread awareness of dental hygiene practices, and you may have even seen her on YouTube! She has a channel full of useful information about at home dental hygiene, as well as videos to help demystify various dental issues and procedures so our patients can feel confident they’re making the right choice. If you’re looking for information this is the best place to start!

In her spare time you can find Hebe trying every restaurant in the Bay Area - so if you’re looking for a recommendation look no further. She also enjoys travel, hiking, and photography.

Tamara

Registered Dental Assistant

Tamara joined Gorrell Smiles in 2017. As one of our skilled dental assistants, Tamara loves the opportunity to meet new people and show them how to take care of their teeth properly. She enjoys her wonderful coworkers who work together to make every day enjoyable and productive.

Tamara is a native of Tbilisi in the Republic of Georgia and attended Foothill College in Los Altos Hills where she studied dental assisting. In her free time, Tamara enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends. She also loves to cook and share her food with others.

Eva

Registered Dental Assistant

Eva joined our practice in November 2018. She became a Registered Dental Assistant in 2006. With over 14+ years of experience, Eva enjoys working with patients on achieving a healthy oral hygiene and their desired smiles!

On her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two kids and exploring the beauty California has to offer!

Marleny Rodriguez

Registered Dental Assistant

Marleny loves to spend time with her friends and family. When she is not travelling, she is hiking and enjoying outdoor adventures. She loves helping people and teaching patients how to improve their dental health. 

Jerelyn

Dental Assistant

Jerelyn joined our practice in 2020 as a Dental Assistant. Her passion for caring and helping people as a care taker inspired her to move into the dental field. She is dedicated to professional growth so she will be starting Dental Hygiene school in 2021.

On her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is a sports fanatic and the Lakers biggest fan! GO LAKERS!!
